Sunday 14th March 2010
A bright opening for the Bombers saw Ethan Munden have the chance to open the scoring from the spot after a handball in the box. However, the star midfielder looked on in despair as his shot struck the upright and the ball was cleared. Minutes later though it was all smiles after man of the match Alex Kessel lifted the ball into the box and after Ashley Summerfield’s shot was blocked, Theo Harvey fired home. Ashcombe roared back but Kessel, Parkes, Simms and Salt held firm in defence. Logan Westwick showed good hands to smother a powerful shot as the Bomber’s fought hard to defend against the wind. Richie Parkes did well to surge forward down the flank but when the ball was returned to the Bomber’s box the home side striker turned and drilled home to level the scores. A great Kieron Simms tackle kept the scores level and then fine work from Liam Curley and Harvey saw Harry Bradbury burst into the area but his shot was saved. Bradwell regained the lead after a fine flowing move from Harvey and Parkes down the right flank feeding Curley who crossed for Bradbury to convert in some style. Richie Parkes almost scored the goal of the season but his speculative piledriver crashed against the bar before being cleared. Kessel then came close to a rare goal when his lofted cross almost crept home.
Half time 2 – 1 to the Bombers
Bradwell started the second half brightly enough with Harvey almost chipping the keeper who did well to tip the shot over the bar, but this was to be a rarity in a second half which was completely dominated by the resurgent Pythons. A superb cross led to an equalizer through the dynamic number 7 who was giving Will Jordan, PJ Salt, Alex Kessel and Kieron Simms a torrid time. The same player bustled through to make it 3-2 and after ten minutes of the second half it was 4-2 after the Bomber’s had failed to clear their lines from a corner. Logan Westwick made a great diving save to keep his side in the game but too many of his team-mates did not appear to have the stomach for a fight back. Kaash Buttery and Lewis Muncey found progress difficult against the massed ranks of Ashcombe defenders but the majority of play was in the Bombers half. Westwick saved again after another dangerous attack but he was powerless as a right wing cross flew straight in for number six. The final goal was fittingly dispatched in clinical style by the brilliant Ashcombe number 7 and the home side will be serious title contenders on this form. The Bombers will need to regroup and put this abject display behind them to get their own title ambitions back on track next week.
Final Score 7 – 2 to the Pythons.
